Hi, thanks for joining me and my family. My name is Shannon and I am a mom of two beautiful, busy girls. I have ADHD so does my oldest daughter and husband.
While growing up I was sent to the “dumb” room at school to complete my work. I always had a hard time grasping anything I was being taught. I thought I was dumb and that I wouldn’t amount to anything. In high school I skipped school a lot. I hung out with anyone who would give me attention. I had a hard time regulating my emotions. Then I went to college. I was very interested in what I was studying. For the first time in my life I was able to grasp the information being taught. People were coming to me with questions. I was on my attention high. It wasn’t until I graduated and began working in the education system that I began to connect the dots with my childhood and ADHD. I saw a lot of the same struggles with my oldest daughter and I began the process of getting her diagnosed. I had a goal to get the diagnosis before she began grade 1 so she can have all the tools in her tool box so she didn’t feel the negative way I did about learning. I thought if she was getting diagnosed I would look into getting myself diagnosed as well. Sure enough I was diagnosed. I was placed on medication and my life changed. I was able to be the individual I had always daydreamed about.
